During your vacation in Gorski kotar area, a trip to Delnice will be one of your activities for sure. Supermarkets and shops in Delnice would very probably be your first choice for buying your food supplies and other necessities while staying in Doluš.

During winter, in Delnice you can visit a 420 meters long Potόk sledging run (during snowy weather only), new ice rink built in the King Tomislav Park at the city center or the indoor swimming pool.

When visiting Delnice, take a few minutes walk through the city park. Delnice King Tomislav city park & Japlenški Vrh Forest Park

(established in 1953)

Covered by ancient beeches, firs and spruces the King Tomislav Park provides shade and refresment just beside the Delnice city centre. Park boasts a new ice rink (works during winter), small tennis court, an interesting sundial built in 1917, children’s playground, but above all is clean, fresh air. Delnice’s park is an urban greenspace that makes a slight transition from city sidewalks to wooded area of Japlenški Vrh. City park and Japlenški Vrh Forest Park together make a nice natural unity that exudes freshness and forest peace. It is a pleasant area for a walking, jogging or just sitting on some bench meditating and enjoying your day. From the city park there is a walking trail ascending towards Japlenški Vrh. It leads you by staircases through the small deer enclosure (so-called ‘zoo’), or you can chose milder but a bit longer way called Lover’s trail as well starting in the city park by the stairs. Both trails will take you to the Lovački dom hotel /restaurant (means “hounters lodge” in Croatian) that is located within the Japlenški Vrh Forest Park area.

There is a number of walking and bicycle trails inside Japlenški Vrh Forest Park. A circular walking trail starts by the Lovački dom, where you can park your vehicle and enjoy nice one-hour walking tour. This walk runs through the woods, along the Pijaničevo meadows, around the peak of the Japlenški vrh. Also one section of the same trail leads you to the highest point (842 m). Japlenški Vrh walking trails are interesting to visit during any time of the year. In winter there are frost ice flowers on twigs, wild animal’s tracks and a beautifull scenery of dark huge coniferous trees full of snow. As soon as the snow begins to melt, hellebore roses appear followed by a number of other beautiful and interesting plant speciemen. In summer there is a plenty of pink cyclamen flowers, and colorful mushrooms in autumn.

Japlenški vrh got its name from Croatian word japlenica (=limekiln) and vrh (=peak). The walking paths of Japlenški vrh are linked to 9 kilometers long hiking trail that connects Japlenški vrh Forest Park with Golubinjak Forest Park and Lokvarka cave. Information boards that have been set up along this trail inform visitors about traditional limestone burning process and limekilns that were present here in the past. There are also educational boards displaying basic data and many interesting facts about other features of the Gorski kotar area and nature.

Petehovac – protected landscape

(established in 1963)

Protected area of nature Petehovac Landscape is a favorite day trip and recreational destination for many citizens of Delnice. Petehovac is one of small hills overlooking the Delnice city. It is 1098 m high, mosaicly covered by woods and meadows. Mountain hayfields and pastures at the Petehovac plateau were cultivated in the past, nowadays abadoned. Now Petehovac is mostly overgrown by forest, shrubs and trees.

Mountain resort also named Petehovac is situated inside the Protected Petehovac Landscape area. It was built at the beginning of 20th century near Štimčov vrh peak (1024 m). Hikers and climbers from Delnice worked there voluntary, hand-carrying building materials for a Petehovac mountain resort. During the 1980s and 1990s the Petehovac resort buildings become ruined and out of its function. About 15 years later, the terrain was cleaned and step by step a new, private small ski resort has emerged.  Renewed buildings – a restaurant, ski lifts and all other facilities were officially reopened on December 26th 2004. Started in summer 2014, grass ski activities are also available during summer as well the rent-a-bike service. Polane cottage village and the Jagodina stijena cliff are interesting sights nearby. In Petehovac area there are several hiking trails, all fairly well maintained and marked. Good domestic food is available in the Petehovac mountain resort restaurant.

The way from Doluš to Petehovac is 27 km long. After you enter Delnice from the Brod na Kupi direction, at the crossroad before the INA gas station, you’ll have to turn on the left, and on the crossroad by the gas station – again to the left. After about 50 meters there is a crossroad on which you’ll have to go to the right, through a small tunnel. The main asphalt road will take you straight to the mountain resort and the Petehovac plateau protected area of nature.
