A trip to Golubinjak Forest Park
Golubinjak Forest Park – established in 1961
It’s great to be in the forest! Golubinjak Forest Park is a wonderful place to relax in. It represents the strong bond between outstanding natural beauty and careful human intervention in it.
From Doluš to Golubinjak there is aproximatelly 30 minute drive. Directions to Golubinjak Forest Park when coming from Doluš:
- in Delnice on the crossroad after the blue INA gas station turn on the right towards Rijeka
- 5 km after that point there is a big illustrated board by the road, pointing to the left towards the Golubinjak Forest Park direction
- after turning left exiting the main road you will go downhill below the highway overpass to the parking lot
At this point you will have to pay your entrance ticket. After your arrival first of all you will notice the wide meadow in front of Forest Park buildings that makes an interesting unity with surrounding ancient forest and the highway trails.
Golubinjak Forest Park is traditionaly a favourite trip destination for Lokve inhabitants. There is a lot of space for sports. You can take some ball or other equipment with you. Grilling site is arranged nearby, so you can prepare your food there as well. Nice fresh meal is also available at the Forest Park restaurant.
Golubinjak Forest Park is the protected area of nature with a selection of activities and trails ranging from gentle strolls to serious rock-climbing adventures, all helping you enjoy the best of the Golubinjak Forest Park according to your interests.
Golubinjak Forest Park landscape is a mixture of silent coniferous forests and rocky karst terrain of unique beauty. The forest area is overcrossed by well marked and maintained walking trails.
Although the trails are gentle, some parts could be quite rough and undulating, and do include the short steep parts. However, for your safety throughout the trip, your pace of walking should be relaxed, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the landscape and nature. There are educational interpretation panels, providing facts, information and guidance to visitors througout the Forest Park.
Walking trails will lead you to all the most interesting details of the Forest Park: Ledena spilja (means “Ice Cave“), Golubinja spilja (=„Pigeon’s Cave“), Kamena vrata (=„Stone gate“), Kraljica Smreka (=„Queen Spruce Tree“)… The whole route can be walked in about two hours.
Nearby Golubinjak there is a village of Lokve with another attraction: Lokvarsko Jezero Lake. During hot summer days Lokvarsko is nice for swimming and refreshment. By the Lokvarsko Lake there is a very nice restaurant called “Jezero”. There you can taste some local cuisine (the cooker even got some international reward for his work) in a nice domestic atmosphere (and by affordable prices).
As you are spending your day in Lokve area, it is a great opportunity to visit the Lokvarka cave. You can enter the cave only in a specified time, so it is the best to check the entrance schedule on the web. The cave location shown on their official web site map is inaccurate now, but you will see the road marks in the city of Lokve.
